Oblivion

Oblivion is a science fiction action thriller movie released in 2013. The release date of this movie is near to Will Smith's sci-fi movie After Earth. This movie is based on Joseph Kosinski's unpublished graphic novel of the same name. Oblivion is written by Joseph Kosinski, Michael Arndt and Karl Gajdusek and directed by Joseph Kosinski. This movie has a very small set of characters, which is played by Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo.

Oblivion tells the story of future, where a drone technician finds a lady whom he has dreamt several times, in a crashed spaceship. Then the whole world, as he knows it, starts to change.

Plot:
This is a story of the year 2077. Around 60 years ago, some aliens (called Scavengers, or scavs) has attacked earth. They have started the attack by destroying the moon, creating environmental imbalance in planet earth. Then they invaded earth. To stop them, the world leaders have used nuclear bombs, which made the earth uninhabitable even for human. Mankind has moved to Titan, one of Saturn’s moons.

Now human have put several machines which generate power from the seawater. Scavs are still there in the earth, so human are using drones to protect the machines. There is also a space station named Tet near the earth, which is used as the control station of the whole program.

Jack is one of the very few people living in the earth. He is a drone technician. His job is to take care of the drones and repair them when needed. He lives in a secure high tech beautiful home with his partner and lover Victoria, who coordinates and navigates Jack’s mission according to the orders from the Tet. It’s been 5 years since Jack had a mandatory memory swipe, but regularly he dreams of another lady with him in a busy city.

Jack’s days pass by doing his job, while frequently he has to fight with scavs. In one situation, when he was face to face with a group of scavs, he finds that the scavs are no trying to kill him, but trying to catch him. He has a secret place, where there is still some trees left and there he has a cabin by a lake, where he goes secretly to relax.

One day, Jack and Victoria find a strange signal coming from a tower. Jack there place and before disabling it, he finds that, the signal is broadcasting coordinates of a location. Later on that day, Jack finds a crashed spaceship there with the crews in capsules. To Jack’s amazement, a drone comes there and starts killing them, instead of saving them. In one capsule, Jack finds the girl from his dream and saves her from the drones by risking his life. He brings her to his home.

As soon as she wakes up, she seems to recognize Jack. She tells her name is Julia and her spaceship was a mission by NASA. She then wants to recover the flight recorder from her ship, so Jack takes her to the crash site. There they are attacked by the scavs and the scavs take them to their hiding place.

After going there, Jack finds that the scavs are nothing but human. They ask Jack’s help to plant a bomb in the Tet. Jack refuses and then the scav leader lets him go free and suggests him to visit the restricted ‘radiation zone’ where, according to Jack’s instructions, he will burn if he enters.

Jack takes Julia to some place and asks her identity. Then Julia reveals that she is Jack’s wife. Jack then remembers some of his memories with Julia. Victoria sees the scene with her camera, and when Jack and Julia returns home, Victoria refuses to open the door. She also reports to the Tet that they are no more an effective team.

Suddenly, a drone gets activated and kills Victoria. It then tries to kill Jack, but Julia saves him. Then Jack and Julia get chased by some more drones and finally crash in the radiation zone. At the radiation zone, Jack finds a clone of himself and both of the clones start to fight. In their fight, Julia gets injured. So find treatment for her, Jack finds a home identical to his home in another zone, with the clone of Victoria as well.

To find answers, Jack and Julia go to the scav leader again. Here Jack tries to find the facts about the Tet, the scavs, his own past, Julia’s true identity and the mystery of the clones.

My reviews about the movie Oblivion:
I liked Oblivion very much, not for the plot, but for the beautiful cinematography and special effects.

The plot of Oblivion is very simple and predictable. There is no doubt that the plot is good, but we have seen a lot of movies with kind of similar plots, like I’Robot or the Eagle Eye. In a movie with Tom Cruise in it, we obviously expect something remarkable. There were a lot of hints throughout the movie Oblivion, so it became predictable that who the main villain was.

What made the Oblivion special was the beautiful screenplay, cinematography and the special effects. The use of special effects was extra-ordinary, even comparing with other high rated science fiction movies. The set design, lighting and camera works were perfect matches with the context of this movie.

Oblivion has a remarkably small set of characters but each of them has performed perfectly. I don’t need to write anything about Tom Cruise or Morgan Freeman, but everyone else did very well. The make ups and the dialogues were also extremely good. But this movie has very small amount of action sequences. More action sequences could make Oblivion more enjoyable.

Another downside of Oblivion is, a lot of screen time was given only to show Tom Cruise alone, specially on the first half. It was bearable only because it was extremely handsome Tom Cruise. With any other actor, it would look boring.

Although there is a small nudity at the beginning, but I still think it safe to watch Oblivion with kids.

So, finally, Oblivion is good movie, where everything, except the plot, were extra-ordinary. My time was well spent watching this movie and I’ll definitely recommend Oblivion to all movie lovers.

247 Degrees Fahrenheit Movie Review

247 Degrees Fahrenheit

The very small set of characters in 247 Degrees Fahrenheit is played by Scout Taylor-Compton, Travis Van Winkle, Christina Ulloa, Michael Copon and Tyler Mane.

A Scene from the movie 247 Degrees Fahrenheit

Plot:
At the beginning of the movie 247 Degrees Fahrenheit, a couple is going somewhere in the car at night and they have an accident. The accident kills the boy, leaving the girl, named Jenna, injured but alive.

Three years later, Jenna, with her good friend Renee and her boyfriend Michael and Michael’s friend Ian, goes to a trip to spend their vacation. Renee and her boyfriend are trying to fix Jenna with Ian but Jenna is still trying to recover from her tragedy. The four of them goes to a lakeside cabin owned by Ian’s relative Wade. Wade welcomes them all to his beautiful cabin.

At that town, a special festival is going on and they have four passes for a special invite-only party. They all like the cabin very much. Renee and Michael start to make love as soon as they go to their room while Jenna and Ian start to arrange for dinner. Meanwhile, Jenna has refrained herself from taking her medicines, because she is trying to move on and live without her medicines.

They have dinner and then Wade leaves telling that he has some other things to take care of. But before going to the party, they find a beautifully decorated hot sauna in that cabin. Together they hit the sauna and enjoy there. But when they feel too hot, they goes out and together jumps in the lake. But the water of the lake was again too cold for them, so they again head to the sauna.

But before going to the sauna, the two boys have some drink and Michael becomes drunk. He tries to seduce Renee but she refuses. Michael becomes mad and leaves the sauna. He heads upstairs to go to the bathroom. Inside the sauna, Renee feels irritated. After finishing their sauna bath, when the three of them tries to go out, they find that the door is stuck by something from the outside and they are trapped.

They call Michael but the door is too thick to let out much of the sound. They find that, the temperature control system of the sauna is outside, so they can’t reduce the heat. There is a thermostat inside the room, but messing with it may even increase the heat. The system has a maximum heat to 250 degrees Fahrenheit, where they have previously set it at 185 degrees. Until any help from outside comes, they have to survive in this room with only a very small amount of water.

Renee become paranoid and starts to irritate Jenna and Ian. Several times she conducts personal attack on Jenna. Ian tries to find any possible way to get out of the sauna. After several of his attempts and bleeding from his hand, he manages to break a small glass window. It helps them to get some fresh air in the room, but with the risk of the temperature going higher.  He also tries to move that obstacle from the door, but fails.

One time, they hear the barking of Wade’s dog. They shout by the name of that dog and the dog understands their location. Then the dog runs to Wade to bring him for help, but Wade fails to understand the intention of the dog and goes somewhere else taking Michael.

Inside the sauna, Ian tries to blow the fuse by messing with the bulbs. His plan is to stop the heater by cutting the power. But instead of blowing the fuse, his attempts blow the lights and keep the heater running. He also gets a severe electric shock and passes out. He gains his consciousness and finally loses his mind.

Renee has already passed out. So now its all unto Jenna to save their lives.

But who has trapped them inside the sauna? Why there is no response from Michael? What is blocking the door? Why Wade is not returning to the cabin? Why is Michael not looking for them?  Let’s watch this movie till the end to find the answers.

My review about the movie 247 Degrees Fahrenheit:
First of all, 247 Degrees Fahrenheit was a good movie.

The plot is very simple, but interesting. It has kept me wondering throughout the movie about what is actually happening outside the sauna. The answers were hard to predict. At the end of 247 Degrees Fahrenheit, everything fits perfectly, answering all the questions that came in mind.

The acting of all the characters of 247 Degrees Fahrenheit was good and fluent. Although, several times it seemed a little weak on acting, but overall the performance was good. The dialogues were also good. Same goes for makeups.

The screenplay and direction of 247 Degrees Fahrenheit seemed very good. We must give credit to the director to manage to keep the suspense up throughout the movie with such a simple plot. The thrill grew up very slowly from the beginning and once it was up, it stayed till the end. Although the sound effects seemed irritating sometimes, but most of the times, it has helped the suspense. 247 Degrees Fahrenheit gives enough time to know the characters. The screentime was beautifully balanced between inside and outside of the sauna, so it didn’t seem boring at all.

They way they were trapped was the result of an accident and at the end, we see what happened with Michael, so 247 Degrees Fahrenheit has no villain. The writers should also get some credit for creating such a good plot with no evil character.

I have a little complain about the name 247 Degrees Fahrenheit. Ian said, they have set the temperature at 185 degrees, where the maximum it can get was 250 degrees. So, i don't understand how the name fits.

247 Degrees Fahrenheit contains no nude or graphic scene, but has some small scenes with drugs. I think it can be watched with kids. But most part of this movie is inside a sauna and the artists are in their underwear. So considering the nature of this film, I think a little nudity could look good in it.

So, finally, 247 Degrees Fahrenheit seemed like a good movie. I think the IMDB users has done an injustice by rating it only 4.7/10 (while I’m writing this review), this movie deserves a little better. I’d recommend 247 Degrees Fahrenheit to all movie lovers.

Then Alex comes there and takes Sara for a ride. Then she takes Sara to her parent’s home where she grew up. It is also the place where her mother died in a pool.

Can Sara prove her innocence? Is she really innocent?  Will the identity of the true criminal gets revealed?  Lets watch the movie to get the answers.

My reviews about Breaking the Girls:
First of all, I liked this movie.

The plot of Breaking the Girls is good and interesting. The ending is has a big twist, which is perfect for a thriller. What happened at the ending was hard to predict, specially the identity of Alex’s stepmother was impossible to guess. The ending has made the movie really interesting. The twist of plot at the end of Breaking the Girls is pretty balanced, its not too much twist like what we saw in the Wild Things series, where it seemed irritating.

The acting of almost all the characters of Breaking the Girls seemed good, except Madeline Zima. Somehow, her acting didn’t seem all natural. But all other artists were very good fit according to their characters. Agnes Bruckner looked amazing throughout the movie.

The makeups and dialogues of Breaking the Girls are very good. The screenplay and directions are also impressive.

What this movie lacked badly was some nude scenes. The lesbian relation between Alex and others is a big part of Breaking the Girls. But this movie has absolutely no frontal nudity. The appeal of an erotic thriller movie surely decreases with the lack of enough nudity.

Although I’ve said it has is no frontal nudity, but the nature of Breaking the Girls has made it not suitable for kids.

So, overall, I’ve enjoyed watching Breaking the Girls. Although the lack of nudity is on the negative side of this movie, but the combination of good plot, good acting and good screenplay has made this movie enjoyable. I’d recommend all movie lovers to watch Breaking the Girls.
