Vile Movie Review

Vile

Vile is an American horror thriller movie released in 2011. This movie is written by Eric Jay Beck and Rob Kowsaluk  and directed by  Taylor Sheridan. The main parts of Vile are played by Eric Jay Beck, April Matson, Akeem Smith, Greg Cipes, Maya Hazen, Elisha Skorman, Heidi Mueller, Rob Kirkland, McKenzie Westmore and Ian Bohen.

In Vile, we see some people trapped inside a room and they must torture each other to get out of there alive. But even after facing extreme pains, they find that more horror is waiting for them.

Plot:
At the beginning of the movie Vile, we see a man is being tortured and something was going on with some chemicals.

Then the original plot begins with two couples, who are all friends, just finishing their camp outside the city. They are about to start for their home, when one girl gives some drugs to the other girl for safekeeping. On their way to home, they stop at a fuel station for refilling, when a lady comes to them asking for a lift. They agree and the lady gets on their car. The lady claims herself to be a perfume expert. When they reach to that lady’s car, she insists everyone to have some of her perfume’s samples. She goes to her car to bring the samples but instead, comes back wearing a gas mask and puts everyone in the car in sleep by spraying a gas.

The two couples wake up in a strange room and find four more people in the room. Suddenly, one of the other four people comes and breaks the finger of one of the girls. They all become furious and start a fight. But, soon both of the parties calm down and then see the video that the others are talking about.

In that strange cabin, there is a T.V.  and the recording of a women plays on that T.V. that tells them what is happening here. The woman tells that they are from a pharmaceutical company and they want to take some special chemicals which are produced by human brain only when people are in extreme pain, stress or trauma. Each of them has a small jar attached on their back, which is connected to their brain. They have to torture each other so that, those chemicals are produced and filled to a specific quantity. When the bar reaches 100%, the doors will open and they can all get out of this cabin.

The 8 of them gets divided into different opinions. Some of them believe the video tape, others don’t. But none of them can find a way out of that cabin. One of them doesn’t believe this at all and pulls the cords from his neck, and dies instantly. The others get scared and decide to follow what the lady has said. At first, together they torture one of them to fill his part of the bar, which, finally, brakes his leg. Then they have a lottery to decide who’s next and follow the serial.

They keep on torturing each of them by turn to fill the bar. The girlfriend, who has the drugs, gives one to her boyfriend so ease his pain, but instead he has to endure more pain to fill his part. A girl from the two couples is pregnant, so her boyfriend and the other 2 friends endure the torture for her.

Enduring all the pains, finally they all manages to fill the bar and starts to go out of the cabin one by one. But things don’t go smooth, one of them gets trapped again, who, to survive, has to do it all again completely by herself. The others who escape also find that the lady on the video was not honest about the getting out part of the plan and the plan seemed different from what she mentioned earlier. They also find a rat among them.

My review about the movie Vile:
First of all, Vile is a very disturbing movie. And by referring disturbing, I mean most of us will not enjoy watching this movie at all.

The one of the very few good things about Vile is its plot. The plot is exciting and innovative. A very good thriller movie can be made with the same plot. The ending was also interesting.

The acting and the screenplay in Vile were not as bad as they were expected to be. The dialogues were poor. The make ups were good.

The set design of Vile is very poor. The glass windows are visible several times in the whole movie which could easily be broken. And it is not believable how 7 persons cannot get out of wooden cabin who were provided all the equipment like gas, fire, axe, screw-driver, knife and so on.

The whole movie Vile is full of tortures and most of the scenes were graphic. All these torture scenes should seem pointless to anyone other than the hardcore fan of this genre.

Although there is no nudity in it, but it is easily understandable that Vile is not for children.

So, finally, there is nothing to enjoy in the movie Vile and I felt like I’ve wasted my time watching it. I obviously, will not recommend watching Vile to anyone.

Plot:
Four teens (two couples) start for an adventure where they want to see and record the paranormal activities of Munger Road. Legend has it, if they put their car in neutral gear and then stop it on the rail crossing, some ghost kids will push the car to safety. Although the girlfriends are not interested about it at all, their boyfriends are over excited to record this thing. They go to that spot and put some powder on their car’s bumper and then wait in the car. Their car really gets pushed by someone or something and they find prints of someone’s hand on the powder of the bumper.

At the same time, the sheriff of their town gets the information that a serial killer has escaped from the prison, who is responsible for the killings of several teens near the Munger Road. The next day is the day of a local festival and a lot of people are coming to this town for that, so the sheriff and the mayor get really serious to catch the killer. The sheriff, along with his deputy, goes to the killer’s previous home, where someone hits the deputy in his head in the dark and escapes. Then they start to look for the killer in all possible hiding places. They also find an abandoned car in the town.

Meanwhile, the teens in the Munger Road start their journey back. On the way, suddenly their car stops and they can’t start it again. It is an empty place with no houses or passing cars nearby and with no signals in their cell phones, so at first, they plan to stay in the car till the dawn. But later, they change plan and a boy goes out searching for help. In the car the others get scared when he does not come back in few hours. Suddenly, two of them get sms from that boy, where one of the sms urges them to run away from the car. The boy in the car checks the recording in his camera and finds another man’s presence near their car. Then the girlfriend of the boy who left earlier, leaves the car to seek help. Only two were in car and soon, someone comes to the car. The boy manages to run away before that person attacks but the girl’s fate is not shown. He again comes to the car to look for her girlfriend and then gets attacked by that person.

In the town, the sheriff and his deputy look for the killer at an underground tunnel which runs to a cabin near the Munger Road. At one point, they get separated and the deputy finds the remains of the body of that killer’s victim. The sheriff heads for the cabin in his car. The girl, who left the car second, reaches the cabin and gets attacked by someone. She manages to escape and finds her boyfriend hiding there. The mysterious person again catches them but finally, leaves the girl unharmed. Then the sheriff reaches the cabin, finding no bodies near the car or at the cabin, except the living girl. Then the sheriff learns a very strange information about the killer, which changes the whole scenario.

My review about Munger Road:
I don’t want to draw conclusion fast about Munger Road.

The plot of Munger Road is good and thrilling, except the ending. Everything was going fine throughout the movie and near the end, it may really make you thrilled, until at the very end, you will find the movie Munger Road is incomplete, as it ends abruptly  with showing ‘to be continued’. It felt very odd without any indication ago in the poster or throughout the movie. Regular viewers like us have every right to feel cheated by the way it ends.

To talk about the other aspects, the acting and the dialogues of Munger Road were actually good. The tension of this thriller movie keeps on building slowly and the director has succeed to keep us wondering about what is happening out there, without knowing exactly what to expect. Several times, it felt like its going to be a horror movie. In the middle of the movie, I was wondering why I haven’t heard about Munger Road earlier, as it seemed to be a pretty good one. Then I realized, it’s the ending which has taken all the credit away from this one.

The screenplay of Munger Road was also good. Two completely different stories, the story of the teens and the story of the sheriff, went parallel and converged beautifully at the cabin near the end.

But still, there were some plot-holes, which the director could avoid to improve the quality of the Munger Road. For example, if the prank about the ghost was played by the boys, then who pushed their car? How did they get the sms where there was no network? We saw the killer attacked a boy near the car, but how come the sheriff didn’t find any sign when he went there? And how come, two persons sitting in a silent car, can’t hear when their car’s trunk is being opened?

There are no adult scenes in Munger Road, so you can safely watch it with kids.

So, overall, I liked almost everything about Munger Road except the ending. Moreover, by searching on internet, I could not see any possibility of part 2 till when I’m writing this review. So I don’t know what the director is trying to do with this movie. And at the end, the ‘to be continued’ did not give me a good feeling. I will not recommend Munger Road to anyone, at least until I see any possibility of its second part.

Anyway, you may find some interesting facts about the myths of the actual Munger Road by searching over internet.

Plot:
At the beginning of Werewolf: The Beast Among Us, we see a werewolf attacking the family of a little boy named Charles. Both of Charles’s parents die trying to save him, but finally Charles kills the werewolf and saves himself. Before dying, his father gives him a locket which was a sign of great werewolf hunters.

Years have passed and Charles has grown up. He is now the leader of a team which is renowned for hunting werewolves. One day, few men come to him asking his help, telling him that a werewolf has killed a lot of people in their village. Charles also finds that, that werewolf is of a special kind, which can hunt for three days in a row. He heads for that village with his team. On the way, they see a cart carrying dead bodies and also meet a zombie who has been infected by werewolf. As their regular procedure, Charles’s team shoots the zombie in its head and then burns the body.

Then we see a teenage boy named Daniel who is living in a nearby village where the werewolf has attacked. He is studying to be a doctor and has an affair with a rich girl. Daniel’s mother runs a hotel cum brothel in that village. Charles’ team reaches Daniel’s village just when a man was asking for the bounty of killing the werewolf to the local police chief, by bluffing the villagers. Charles exposes the bluff and then, by bargaining with the police chief, doubles the bounty announced by the police. Daniel becomes impressed by seeing Charles’s team and offers them his assistance. Charles politely declines. Charles’s team starts to stay at Daniel’s mother’s hotel.

Daniel‘s girlfriend tries to stop Daniel from becoming an werewolf hunter and also offers him to get admitted in a medical college, which Daniel declines. He keeps on working with the village’s doctor. They regularly get patients attacked by the werewolf and kill the ones who have got infected. Meanwhile, Charles takes preparation for hunting and on the next moon, sets a trap in the jungle to catch the werewolf. At the same time, a group of poachers were also after the werewolf. The werewolf leads poachers to Charles’s trap and thus, both of the teams fail to catch it. Charles understands that this werewolf is intelligent and thus, different from other werewolves. Daniel also gets chased and taken by the werewolf. Then the werewolf attacks Daniel’s mother’s hotel and kills some bad people.

Daniel finds a pattern in how this werewolf attacks people and proves to Charles that it only attacks low life. Being impressed, Charles listens to Daniel and together they go to the local gypsy head who gives them idea about how powerful and special this werewolf is. He also tells them that they must catch it in next two days, otherwise, it will be able to transform at its will and will be impossible to stop.

In the meantime, the villagers lose faith into the hunters and try to take matters in their own hands. They identify some persons who don’t have a strong alibi about them when the werewolf attacked last night and suspect them as werewolf. Daniel’s mother, his girlfriend’s father, the gypsy head, the police chief and some other people are kept into the jail for that night to see if any one of them is the werewolf. Charles also sets up another trap with the help of Daniel. They use one of the poachers as bait, as the werewolf is hunting lowlifes.  At the night, the werewolf attacks. This time again, all of Charles’s team’s efforts goes in vain and the werewolf escapes. But surprisingly, the werewolf hurts none of the members of Charles’s team when it has easy chances to kill them.

At the same time in the jail, the police chief feels seek. Becoming frightened, the guards kill all of the people in the jail, except Daniel’s mother who escapes. Then we get to know the human identity of the werewolf. We also see how he/she has become a werewolf and the reason why he/she has this special power. We can also see that an important person in that village is protecting and training the werewolf.

One member of Charles’s team finally finds out who the werewolf is and puts him/her in display in front of the villagers to reveal its true identity. But the werewolf breaks free and goes to hiding. Finally it comes face to face with that member, which also reveals another identity of that companion of Charles.

Can Charles or Daniel kill the werewolf? Can the human identity of the werewolf save the persons he/she love? Let’s watch the movie to find the answers.

My review about Werewolf: The Beast Among Us:
First of all, I’ve found Werewolf: The Beast Among Us as a better than average werewolf movie.

The plot seemed nice and interesting. It was not easy to guess who the werewolf was and from time to time, the director has given signals to misguide us in that guessing in Werewolf: The Beast Among Us, and it felt exciting. Finding the werewolf was not the end of the movie. We got that answer long before the movie’s end and a lot of other things happened after that. But overall, the plot of Werewolf: The Beast Among Us is good enough to keep you attached.

The acting and the dialogues in Werewolf: The Beast Among Us were good too. All the actors and actresses have done a good job here.

The makeups and special effects of Werewolf: The Beast Among Us were also good. The werewolf and its transformation effects seemed natural. Specially, the makeup of the werewolf was pretty good, so I wonder why the director has not shown it more on the whole movie.

I found a big plot hole in Werewolf: The Beast Among Us.  When you see the human identity of the werewolf, you can clearly remember that you saw that person being chased by the werewolf. But the whole movie is about only one werewolf, nowhere else it refers any second one. It is hard to accept this type of mistake in a movie like this.

What I didn’t like about Werewolf: The Beast Among Us was the graphic scenes used in it. The director could show less (or indirectly) of them without harming the sense of the movie at all. This movie could do better without them.

Although there is no nude scene in Werewolf: The Beast Among Us, but for the body pieces and other scenes, this movie is not suitable for kids.

So, overall, I liked this movie. I’ll mark this movie as good, although not great. Werewolf: The Beast Among Us is surely worth giving a try.

What do you think about this one? Feel free to comment.

The Descent : Part 2 Movie Review

The Descent : Part 2

The Descent : Part 2 is a British horror thriller movie released in 2009. As the name suggests, this movie is the sequel of the British horror film ‘The Descent’ which was released in 2005. This movie was produced by Christian Colson and co-produced by Paul Ritchie and Neil Marshall. It was directed by Jon Harris. The major roles of The Descent : Part 2 were played by Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, Krysten Cummings, Gavan O'Herlihy, Joshua Dallas, Douglas Hodge and Anna Skellern.

In The Descent : Part 2, one of the survivors of its prequels comes back from the cave and then lead a team of police and scientist to that cave again, who now face those awful underground creatures.

A scene from the movie The Descent: Part 2

Plot:
The Descent : Part 2 starts form where its prequel ended. At the beginning, we see police and other people are searching for the missing girls (from part 1) where one of them, Sarah, comes out alive. She is admitted in a hospital. The doctors there find the proofs of her  heavy fighting and also find bloods of other people on her clothes, which they suspect, are the bloods of the other missing girls. But the police can’t get any information about the other girls from her, because she has lost her memory of the previous 2 days.

With the help of a dog, the police find the way from where Sarah has escaped. The police sheriff, along with his deputy and an expert with his 2 trainees take Sarah there. That place was the entry of an abandoned mine, which had a cave system. They find some information from the mine’s caretaker and decide to enter there. Taking proper preparations, they enter the mine by an old lift. But when the lift starts to descend, the caretaker winks at one of the members of the group.

They find the mine and then the entry of the cave system. An old sign was there at the entry of the cave to warn people to not to enter. But soon after their entry, Sarah starts to remember little bit of her memory in the cave and tells everyone to not to go there, but the others ignore her, thinking her mind is playing tricks with her. They also find the body of one missing girl, who were murdered. The sheriff suspects Sarah for the incident. While passing a narrow tunnel, Sarah remembers more from her earlier experience here and suddenly attacks others and tries to run away at the deeper parts of the cave.

The sheriff follows her and thus two of them get detached from the group. Then the sheriff sees a strange creature and in panic, shoot from his gun which causes the cave to collapse. One of the trainees of the expert gets trapped in rocks. The other 3 (the expert, his other trainee and the deputy of the sheriff) starts again to find an escape route. They reach to a room full of bones and find the camera of the missing girls. From the camera, the see the human-like creatures and then those creatures attack them. The team gets split and the expert gets killed by the creature where the deputy was saved by Sarah. Sarah tells the deputy that the creatures are blind and they hunt via sound.

When another creature is trying to attack the trapped trainee, she escapes and kills that creature. She then finds the other trainee and together, tries to survive and find their way out of there. But after several of their attempts to stay alive, they find the body of another lady from the previous group and then, get killed by the creatures.

Sarah and the deputy keep on hiding from the creatures on their way to escape. Meanwhile, the sheriff who was alone, falls in front of another creature and when the creature was about to kill him, Juno (a lady from the previous group, who has also survived but couldn’t get out of the cave like Sarah) saves him. After all these days of living inside the cave and fighting those creatures, Juno seemed mentally unbalanced.

Finally the four of them gets together and Juno and Sarah start to fight with each other. At one point, they understand that this fighting will not help any of them and they need to be united to get out of the cave alive.

To stay alive, their only options are to stay away from those creatures as much as possible and to find a way out of the cave system as soon as possible. Can all of them succeed?

My Review about the movie The Descent : Part 2:
First of all, I liked this movie.

The plot of The Descent : Part 2 is good, although its predictable. The fate of the group is what we regularly see in all horror movies, nothing new. At the very ending, there is a little surprise, but not what we cannot predict at all.

The goal of a horror movie is to make you scared, and here the director has successfully achieved that goal. Here in The Descent : Part 2, the tension grows up very slowly from the beginning and the movie seemed pretty balanced. The good jobs of sound and lighting effects have helped to create a frightening environment. The cave looked beautiful when the group enters there, but later on looked equally scary. But I think, the set could be better on the scary part. The sudden appearances of the creatures in The Descent : Part 2 with loud sound effects are good enough to make you startle.

The acting is good, so are the dialogues. The makeups are good for most of the parts, only at some small cases, it felt like overdo. The creatures also looked good (read: scary). The only negative side of The Descent : Part 2 is the effects of the blood. Here, the human blood looked pink, which has given a very cheap feeling for some parts. I don’t understand why they couldn’t do any better with those effects.

I also felt like The Descent : Part 2 had some overuse of violence. Those violences, bloods and some scenes with the corpses felt unnecessary.  This movie could do better without them.

Although there are no nude scenes in The Descent : Part 2, but for the violence, you cannot watch it with kids.

I haven’t watched The Descent (part 1) yet, but still enjoyed this movie. Although it’s the continuation of its prequel, but you don’t need to watch that one earlier to understand its plot or to enjoy this movie. Trust me, not watching The Descent (part 1) will not ruin your experience of The Descent: Part 2. But yes, after watching this one, I feel I should watch The Descent.

So overall, I liked watching The Descent : Part 2  I’m not sure how much the fans of other genre of movies will enjoy it, but as a horror, its better than average and I’ll recommend The Descent : Part 2  to all horror movie lovers.

How much did you like this movie? Write in comments.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters Movie Review

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is an American-German action horror fantasy film released in 2013. This movie is co-written and directed by Tommy Wirkola and produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kevin Messick and Beau Flynn. The movie was filmed in Germany. The title roles of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters are played by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. Famke Janssen, Pihla Viitala, Peter Stormare, Derek Mears, Thomas Mann and Rainer Bock has played other important roles. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was also released in 3D.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is about a brother and a sister who hunt witches and at one of their mission, they find a huge challenge to kill the leader of the witches, which also brings some truth about the siblings' identity.
Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters by Ocean's Movie Reviews
Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in  Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

Plot:
The plot of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters starts when two siblings, Hansel and Gretel were kids. One night, suddenly, their father takes them to a jungle and leaves them there. While wandering around, they find a house made of candy. They enter that house and find a witch inside. The witch tries to kill them, but they fight the witch and finally kill her. Later on, the brother and sister duo, Hansel and Gretel becomes professional and renowned witch hunters.

One day, in a small town where small kids were going missing, a lady is caught for the allegation of witchcraft and the sheriff is about to execute her. Just then, Hansel and Gretel appears. They are hired by that town’s mayor to solve the problem of witches. Hansel checks her and confirms that she is not a witch. Then, when Hansel and Gretel starts to look for the witches, the sheriff also sends a group of men to the jungle at night for the same reason. All of the members of that group get killed by the grand witch. Hansel and Gretel catches a witch, and by interrogating her, they learn that the witch leader is preparing for a grand ritual, for which, she needs to sacrifice six boys and six girls each born at separate months. Hansel and Gretel also finds a teenage fan of them in the town, who himself also keeps knowledge about witches.

Suddenly, the grand witch, with her team, attacks the town and takes their targeted kid. Hansel and Gretel try to fight them. While fighting, Gretel gets hit and becomes unconscious. Later on, she is brought to safety and gets taken care of by their teenage fan. Hansel follows another witch to the jungle, but also gets hit.

The next morning, the lady they saved earlier, finds Hansel and helps him to get healed. In the meantime, Gretel searches the jungle for her brother and gets caught by the sheriff and his team. They beat her, but she gets saved by a somewhat human-like creature named troll. The troll takes Gretel to a safe place and helps her. When Gretel asks him for the reason why he has helped her, he replies that troll saves witches and then he leaves. Then Hansel and Gretel reunite at their old childhood home. To their wonder, they find the place as a witch’s layer. Then the grand witch comes there and tells them about their past. She tells them the identity of their mother, how their parent died and also reveals that Gretel is a white witch herself. Then they start to fight and again, the grand witch defeats Hansel and Gretel and abducts Gretel for her grand ritual.

Again, when Hansel wakes up, he finds that lady whom they saved. Then she says that she is also a white witch. Next, they gather all their weapons and the lady blesses them. Then, Hansel, that lady and Hansel and Gretel’s teenage fanboy from the town head for the place where the grand ritual was taking place.

The last part of the movie is about their attempt to save Gretel and the kidnapped children and about Hansel and Gretel’s challenge to take revenge on the grand witch.

My review about Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters:
First of all, I felt disappointed after watching Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Actually, seeing the trailer and posters and most importantly, considering the casting, I had a very high expectation about this movie. But Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters has totally failed to keep up with my expectation. Both of Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton has grown a good reputation for themselves already and I don’t understand why they had to act in this movie.

The weakest part of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is its plot. The plot is too weak and simple to satisfy the movie lovers. While keeping everything as they are, just a more sophisticated plot could make Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters far, far better. And needless to say, it was pretty predictable. Its not that every movie has to have some twist in the plot, but at least it could be better than two siblings who are witch hunters, learns their past and then go on their mission.

And several unnecessary scenes of violence also add up to the negative side of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. The director could do better without them.

But on the good side of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters  the acting and dialogues are good. Same goes for the make-ups. The witches also looked okay, where the troll looked like the “Ogre” from the animation ‘Shrek”. The location also looked good and the weapons looked old styled but fashionable.

This movie features a small scene of nudity. So considering it and the violence, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is not a movie for kids.

The special effects are also good, although they felt insufficient. A little more use of special effects would look good on this movie.

So, overall, although Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters has a better than average IMDB rating of 6.1 (while I’m writing this review), I didn’t like this movie. You can consider watching it by considering its casting, but I will not recommend Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters to anyone who is looking for good movie to have some time spent pleasantly.

How much did you like Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters? Feel free to comment.

Plot:
At the very beginning of Paranormal Activity 4, we see a small footage from the previous movie of this series, Paranormal Activity 3. Then a text says that, the little boy named Hunter and his evil possessed elder sister had gone missing and were never found again (after the incidents of Paranormal Activity 3).

Then the story of this movie starts, which revolves around a teenage girl named Alex. She has a friend, who has some kind of crush on her and flirts with her several times. Alex’s family consists of her parents and a little brother.

One day, a women and her little son (nearly of the same age of Alex’s young brother) rent the house beside Alex’s. The new neighbors are not very keen to socialize with Alex’s family. The little boy doesn’t talk much. One day, Alex and her friend find that little boy in Alex’s tree house. Late at that night, Alex sees some cars including an ambulance in front of her neighbor’s house. Next morning, her mother tells her that the women has fallen sick suddenly and has been shifted to hospital, so the little boy will stay with them for a few days, as his mother has no relatives to take care of that boy.

Since the beginning, the boy behaves very strangely. He becomes good friend with Alex’s brother and they regularly talk with their imaginary friend. He also draws strange symbols on the back of Alex’s brother one day.  Alex’s friend keeps recording Alex’s movement from her computer, which also picks weird behavior of that boy. One day Alex’s friend does something with their TV game which fills the room with infrared dots. Then the camera inside that game also starts picking paranormal activities. The friend also turns different computer at different parts of the house to catch video footage of the surrounding. These cameras catch enough evidences of paranormal presence, but no one watches those footages other than the viewers of this movie.

In the next few days, strange things start to happen all over the house, like strange noises and footsteps, falling of the lamps, levitation of sleeping Alex and drowning of Alex’s little brother on bathtub for a long time and so on. One night Alex hears some noises from the garage when no one was at home. When she went there to check, she got trapped inside the garage and the car starts on its own, creating dense smoke inside the garage. She was almost killed before she could get in the car to break the garage door. None of her parents believe in these unusual incidents. The video game camera records a footage where a small boy’s presence was seen behind Alex’s brother and another where Alex’s brother was arguing with an invisible person about his name not being Hunter.

While these things kept on happening, one night Alex saw some cars in front of her neighbor’s house when the house was supposed to be empty.

Alex and her friend takes these activities seriously while their parents don’t. But the demonic presence does not stay peaceful for long with its game of scaring people. Soon it strikes violently to reach its target, that is, to take Alex’s little brother.

Kathryn Newton In The Movie Paranormal Activity 4 by Ocean's Movie Reviews
Kathryn Newton In Paranormal Activity 4

My reviews about Paranormal Activity 4:
First of all, I liked Paranormal Activity 4 like all others of this series. But I must say, I’m a fan of this Paranormal Activity series, so I’m not sure how much the other people (not fan of this series) will like it.

The plot is good. I must say, the plot, specially the endings are almost same for all of the movies of this series which is getting boring. There is no surprise or no twist of story at the end of Paranormal Activity 4. Whoever has watched the other movies of this series can guess what is happening at the end and this movie will not disappoint you, which is not a good thing in this case. The excitement of Paranormal Activity 1 is long gone.

The acting, makeups and the special effects are also not bad in Paranormal Activity 4, at least nothing you can complain about. Same goes for the dialogues. Kathryn Newton specially looked very cute and charming in here.

I like the idea about how the cameras were set all over the house in Paranormal Activity 4. But it seemed unusual that nobody checked the recordings for most of the paranormal activities.

If I’m not wrong, Paranormal Activity 4 is the first movie of the series which will show you the ghost or the demon directly and clearly. I felt this has reduced the beauty of this movie. Remember, the Paranormal Activity (the first one) was a beautiful and scary movie and that one didn't show the ghost at all, only showed the presence of the ghost.

So, overall, Paranormal Activity 4 is a good horror movie I’d say. If you are fan of Paranormal Activity series, you will like it. If you’re not, I can’t say about you. But surely, its worth a try.

If you’ve seen Paranormal Activity 4, then how do you like it? Feel free to comment on my reviews.

Grave Encounters 2 Movie Review

Grave Encounters 2

Grave Encounters 2 is a Canadian-American horror movie released in 2012. As the name suggests, it is sequel of the 2011 found footage style horror movie Grave Encounters. Like its predecessor, this movie is also shot as “unintentionally caught on tape” style. Grave Encounters 2 is directed by John Poliquin and written by The Vicious Brothers. The major roles of this movie are played by Richard Harmon, Dylan Playfair, Stephanie Bennett, Howie Lai, Leanne Lapp and Sean Rogerson.

Grave Encounters 2 continues the story of its prequel Grave Encounters, where a group of teens become curious about the fate of the actors and crews of that movie and tries to investigate by going to that location.

Plot:
The plot starts after 10 years from the release of Grave Encounters. A vlogger named Alex, who is also directing a horror film himself, releases video blog about the review of the movie ‘Grave Encounters’. He leads a regular teen life with his friends with partying and all other stuffs. He suspects the footage of  ‘Grave Encounters’ is real. In his youtube video, he receives a comment by a suspicious user named ‘death awaits’ who send him a number, which later on turns out to be the coordinate of a mental asylum in Canada. The name of this hospital is not given in the movie, but he learns that this is place where the ‘Grave Encounters’ shooting was done. He does some research and finds information which supports the authenticity of the movie ‘Grave Encounters’. For example, none of the crews of that movie have not worked on any movie after that one.

He becomes obsessed with it and starts to investigate more about that movie. He meets the mother of a crew to talk to that crew, but finds that the mother has gone insane and that crew is missing for last few years. Then a mysterious page gets printed on his printer which gives the schedule of the producer of Grave Encounters (whom we see at the beginning of that movie). Alex goes to meet him. At first he doesn’t want to talk to Alex about it, but later on, gives him an appointment on the next day. On that appointment, he tells Alex some secrets about the movie Grave Encounters. Alex tapes his words by a hidden camera.

Then his friends agrees to join his investigation and they goes to Canada to visit that hospital. They find the hospital as a restricted area, guarded by security guards. Being thrown out by the security guards, they brakes in that hospital at night. They set their equipment and try to communicate with the spirits. Soon they start experiencing paranormal events and like Grave Encounters, the ghosts start to kill them one by one. On their attempt to survival and getting out of that place, they find a crew of Grave Encounters alive, who seems to know some secret about that place.

My review about Grave Encounters 2:
Although I’ll not mark Grave Encounters 2 as a perfect horror movie, but anyone will agree that this movie is much better than its predecessor.  Here, the director has done praiseworthy improvement over Grave Encounters considering all the weaknesses of that one.

For start, the plot of Grave Encounters 2 is much better. Its not just a ghost-attacks-and-kill- all type of plot which is the most common plot of horror movies. The director has spent time to show the teens’ regular life and that time is well spent. The plot does not jump into neither the horror scenes nor to the main story soon after the movie starts (which we saw on Grave Encounters). The plot consists of enough non-horror parts, horror parts, finding answers, fighting for life, betrayal and success. So I’d say, the plot of Grave Encounters 2 has enough suspense to keep you attached to the movie for the whole time. And also, the plot feels more solid than the prequel. The screenplay and direction also seems better here.

The acting and the dialogues are okay. Same goes for the make-up.

The director has successfully reduced the number of scenes where the ghost was directly seen, which has also improved the quality of Grave Encounters 2.  So here, there is less overdoing of special effects or ghost scenes like its prequel.

In my review about Grave Encounters, I wrote that the idea of a building changing itself and the idea of time stopping seemed ridiculous. But here in Grave Encounters 2, they have used the concept of the building’s changing so frequently that it seemed more normal (or less peculiar) than ago.

I liked the ending of Grave Encounters 2. Its not that it has a big twist, but the ending was not what everyone could predict. And the producer’s statements at the end seemed interesting.

Grave Encounters 2 has used it’s predecessor all over it. In every few minutes, it refers to Grave Encounters (you should have noticed how many times I’ve also used it in this review), specially on the first half. To get the complete essence of this movie, you must watch Grave Encounters first. Otherwise, you may not enjoy this movie at all.

But like it’s prequel, Grave Encounters 2 also has its weaknesses. Like, the ghost commenting on Alex’s video or using his printer to give him producer’s schedule is too much, even for fantasy.

So, overall, I’ve liked Grave Encounters 2, specially the improvement over Grave Encounters. If you have watched Grave Encounters, you must watch Grave Encounters 2, whether or not you liked the prequel.  But I’d recommend, don’t watch it without watching the prequel.

What do you think of this movie? Let me know.

The Amityville Haunting Movie Review

The Amityville Haunting

The Amityville Haunting is a horror movie directed by Geoff Meed and starred by Tyler Shamy, Devin Clark and Jon Kondelik. This movie is another of the ‘found footage’ style horror film which is getting too common to be interesting (or innovative) in recent times. This movie is released in 2011.

The Amityville Haunting is the story of a family, who moves in to a new house and starts experiencing paranormal events, but the father refuses to leave the house by ignoring all the evidences.

A scene from the movie The Amityville Haunting

Plot:
The Amityville Haunting tells the story of the house of the famous horror movie  ‘The Amityville Horror’, after 30 years of the massacre. For those who doesn’t know that story, a man killed his family of 6 by being possessed by some kind of demon. Watch that movie if you are interested, that one is a good horror movie, at least, much better than this one.

The  Amityville Haunting starts with the video footage of a few teens, who brakes in that house. Then they were attacked by something (it was not shown what attacked them). Some of them got killed and the others’ fate was not shown.

Next a family comes to that house. The husband (an ex-soldier) likes the house and decides to buy it, but knowing the house’s haunted past, the wife doesn’t agree with him at first. Finally the husband convinces her by telling about the cost and other things. They have 3 children where the mid one is a boy who tapes the whole story in his handycam.

One day, the husband finds a door open in the morning which was closed on the last night. Becoming suspicious, the husband installs security cam in the house. Security cam starts to pick unusual scenes. One night, the husband finds her daughter entering through that door with a boy. The husband throws the boy out of the house and he gets killed just outside the house by some strange thing. Oh, I forgot to mention, the agent who sold the house and a one of the persons who helped them to move in this house has already died in somewhat similar way.  These deaths upset the wife and she doesn’t like the house, but the husband doesn’t seem much disturbed by these.

Anyway, the son (the middle one) gets the phone of one of the teens who entered the house and got killed, but his father doesn’t seem to understand the risk either. Then more strange things starts to happen, like the little girl starts to talk with her imaginary friend, another man gets killed, camera picks up the ghost’s image and so on. All of them want to leave the house, except the husband. Finally he gets crazy and that when the ghost hits its final blow.

My reviews about The  Amityville Haunting:
First of all, I didn’t like The Amityville Haunting at all.

We have seen a good number of these ‘found footage’ or ‘caught on tape unintentionally’ horror movies like The Amityville Haunting lately and now they are not only getting boring, but also getting irritating. Most irritating thing of all is, most of these movies are not well made, just like this one. “Paranormal Activity” is still a legend, where none of these can come near to that, even if they are made following it.

I’ve recently written a review of another movie of this kind, ‘Grave Encounters’ (you can read that here: Grave Encounters Review.). Just like that one, here in “The Amityville Haunting”, the director has totally failed to take the advantage of making a movie of this style. The ghost was seen on the screen several times, which has reduced the appeal of this movie.

A horror movie is supposed to be scary, but The  Amityville Haunting has totally failed to scare me at all.

The plot is too simple to impress. The husband’s wish to stay in this house after all these seemed unrealistic.  The acting, dialogue and the make-up were not good enough. Make-up is specially bad for the ghost. The special effects are one of the very few good sides of The Amityville Haunting, although the effect of the ghost seemed pretty cheap. But I must say, when the ghost attacked (pulled) someone, that scene looked good.

There is nudity at the beginning of the movie The Amityville Haunting, and overall, this one is not for children.

The cause of death of the husband seemed ridiculous. Watch the movie and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

I have some confusion about some documents shown at the end of The Amityville Haunting. Are they original? If anyone can say anything about it, please share.

Finally, I’d say, it felt like I’ve wasted my time by watching The  Amityville Haunting  If you are looking for a good horror movie, don’t go for it.
